K-12 Tours

School Group Visits

The Hammer’s conversation-based tours emphasize close-looking and collaborative meaning-making, and align with SEL and ELA standards. Our tours cultivate five standards-aligned skills: observation, analysis, integrating contextual knowledge, presenting ideas, and collaborative comprehension.

The Hammer offers a wide range of artworks for students to discuss, including special exhibitions that explore contemporary social, political and cultural issues, and the Hammer Contemporary Collection, the Armand Hammer Collection, and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden on UCLA’s campus. Tours are led by Student Educators, UCLA students from diverse disciplines who bring unique perspectives to the artwork on view.

Planning your tour

Tours are one hour long and include discussions of 3-4 artworks. If you’d like to visit the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden on UCLA’s campus, please note that this is an 8-minute drive or 30-minute walk from the Hammer Museum.

Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts

School groups of 20 students or fewer can request to view works in The Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts, which comprises more than 45,000 prints, drawings, photographs, and artists’ books dating from the Renaissance to the present. The all-new Grunwald Center is now open by appointment only, Monday–Friday, 10am–4pm. For further information or to schedule a visit, please email grunwald@hammer.ucla.edu or call 310-443-7078.
