Accessibility
The Hammer Museum welcomes all visitors and wants to help you make the most of your visit. If you have any needs not addressed below, we encourage you to call 310-443-7000 or email accessibility@hammer.ucla.edu for assistance.
Arriving at the Hammer
Street Entry
Street-facing entries to the museum are located on both Wilshire Boulevard and Lindbrook Drive. Both entries include accessible ramps.
Accessible Parking
Accessible parking spaces are located on Level P1 of the museum’s parking garage. Accessible spaces on P1 are located on the parking entry level, directly across from the lobby entrance.
Drop-Offs
Visitors may be dropped off and picked up at the curb outside the entrance on Lindbrook Drive, where there is an accessible ramp up to the courtyard level. Drop-offs are discouraged in the parking garage as there is no grace period for entry, and cars will be charged posted parking rates.
Elevators
From the parking garage, visitors may take the elevators to P1 and enter the museum lobby via its parking garage entrance. Once inside the museum lobby, visitors may use the elevator for access to the courtyard level (including Lulu and the Billy Wilder Theater), or the gallery level (including the Hammer Store and the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts).
Getting around the Museum
All of the museum’s galleries are accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who cannot use stairs.
Wheelchairs
Two wheelchairs are available first-come, first-served at the welcome desk. You may call ahead to reserve a wheelchair at 310-443-7020 or email accessibility@hammer.ucla.edu. Wheelchairs are disinfected before and after each use.
Service Animals
Trained service animals are welcome in all spaces throughout the museum. We welcome other supervised and leashed domesticated animals only in the museum’s courtyard.
Doors
Doors to galleries, restrooms, and some other museum spaces may be difficult for some to open, and do not have a push-to-open activation switch. Please ask a Hammer Ambassador if you need assistance opening a door.
Seating and resting areas
Portable stools are available for use in the galleries. Just ask any Hammer Ambassador stationed in the galleries.
Feel free to sit and rest in our open courtyard or on benches located on the third level.
Attending a Program or Event
Queues
Many large events have queues either outside the museum or at the box office. If queuing is not accessible for you, please speak to a Visitor Experience Ambassador and we can make alternative arrangements with you.
Wheelchairs
There are six wheelchair spaces with companion seating in the Billy Wilder Theater. Four are in the back of the theater and accessible from the theater lobby on the courtyard level. Two are in the front row. Inform the box office of your preference and one of our ushers will escort you. For assistance and questions about wheelchair seating, please call 310-443-7020 or email accessibility@hammer.ucla.edu.
Assistive listening devices
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are available for use for our theater programming. These can be picked up at the box office. For questions, please call 310-443-7020 or email accessibility@hammer.ucla.edu in advance.
Video recordings of many public programs are posted after the event, with English-language transcripts and English closed captioning (CC), on Hammer Channel.
Services such as sign language interpretation, live transcription, and alternate format materials can be arranged. Please contact us at least 10 working days before your visit at 310-443-7020 or accessibility@hammer.ucla.edu to discuss your needs.
